Stop the pontificating!
Unless you were one of the 10 dissenting votes on the deregulation bill, stop with garbage. Perhaps McCain slides by being absent, but it was his guy, Gramm, who brought the bill to the vote.
Is there anyone out there that is willing to discuss this issue transparently?
As I see it …
Even in elementary school, the students have a better grasp of our economy than our politicians and the movers and shakers on Wall Street. No matter how many MBA’s you have from Harvard and Stanford, arithmetic is still arithmetic.
This whole crisis starts when someone offers a loan which they do not consider secure, which they fear will not be paid back on schedule, It does not matter why…
- inflated property values
- fraud within the evaluation process
- lender has few if any additional assets
- lender has questionable income sources
- lender has unverifiable income sources
- lender income does not meet sensible payment guidelines.
- inappropriate guidelines for mortgage brokers
- fraud within the mortgage broker process
- inappropriate guidelines for underwriters
- fraud within the underwriting process
A questionable loan was offered, billions of dollars of them. We all can understand a few mistakes, favors for friends, even some fraud. But billions of dollars worth of mistakes, favors and frauds are a stretch, don’t you think?
After the first step, it is easy to see what happened when you know the players. It’s the old CYA boys. OK, we have some questionable paper here, let’s wrap it up with some good stuff, make it into a derivative and sell it to pension houses and overseas. The arrogance of Wall Street and the banking system amazes me. But someone still had to write the original mortgage – how did hundreds of billions of dollars worth of bad mortgages get approved?
Then for the icing on the cake the Wall Street boys bail out of their own company stock before it crashes and burns for selling derivitives which they knew had no hope of paying out. There must be a place in prison for these people. Martha tells a few white lies to the feds about chump change insider trading and and she got prison, fines and restitution. In comparison these guys should get personal and corporate bankruptcy and life. Sounds like a plan to me.
Furthermore, she did not victimize pension plans across America. She did not bilk our foreign allies. She did put unreasonable strain on our foreign affairs which are already at disaster-like low levels.
Is there anybody out there thinking about the good of the country. These asses on Wall Street are making millions of dollars while they destroy this country. When is it enough money that you start thinking about the consequences of your actions? Sorry to sound anti free enterprise here, but with freedom and rights comes responsibility and accountability. I guess I truly am naive because all I can see are a bunch of bullying pigs in Washington and New York fighting over the carcus of the American citizen.
Time out both of you – the country needs real leaders.
Senator Obama did deliver a tremendous speech in 2004 – “Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America: there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America: there’s the United States of America.”
In these especially difficult times, perhaps we should remember its words along with the words of President Kennedy – Ask not …
Perhaps someday one will say Obama’s speech – There is not a liberal America … and everyone will know what he said.
The Obama camp should put some of these words on the office walls. Focus on policies to help our country and our people. Stop the personal attacks. Stop the negative campaigns. Stop being so obstructive concerning backgrounds – try the truth, transparently – have a little faith in your liberal faithful.
The gut response is always directly from the highschool yard – he started it …
Give me a break.
This applies equally well to Senator McCain and his campaign. I am disappointed that you listened to your advisors who pushed the negative campaign agenda. You are better than this. Your record shows it. You have a record to point at. Senator Obama is trying to make one. Think about that.
Take a message of reform to the people. Clean up Washington and get the lobbyist system under control.
Not all the wives of Presidential candidates are investigated equally!
“I think families are off limits,” Mr. Obama said, speaking in Taylor, Mich. “I would never consider making Cindy McCain a campaign issue. And if I saw people doing it, I would speak out against it. The fact that I haven’t seen that from John McCain is, I think, a deep disappointment.”
I am very confused. Above the fold articles about Cindy McCain and drug issues appeared last weekend.
Is Cindy McCain medical history a personal attack on the McCain family? If you can answer anything but yes to that question then move on…
Why is the background of Michelle Obama ignored by MSM? Why is the background of Cindy McCain above the fold on weekend papers – part of the MSM?
With all the whining going on in the Obama camp about mistreatment, I can hardly blame McCain for lodging a complaint about the treatment of his family, his VP choice and himself by MSM. With all the whining going on someone should open some wine.
Who is your fairy godmother Barry?
Does anyone else find it curious that Senator Obama persistently claims to be from very modest roots, to be in touch with the common people?
Senator Obama’s education record illustrates a preference for private schools and classmates who would not be characterized as ‘common people’:
- Muslim elementary school for 2 years in Malaysia
- Catholic elementary school for 2 years in Malaysia
- Elementary school in Hawaii, Punahou Private School
- High School in Hawaii, Punahou Private School
- Occidental college in LA, for 2 years undergraduate studies
- Columbia University of the Ivy League in NY, to finish the undergraduate degree
- Harvard Law School in Boston, for 3 years and a law degree.
While watching ‘This Week With George Stephanopoulos’ September 15 2008 I was irritated me by the closing statement made by Mr. Paul Begalus. Paraphrasing he said – that Senator John McCain thinks that he has 9 or more houses. McCain is not certain. Senator Barack Obama was raised by a single mother on food stamps. Then he asked – who do you think is out of touch with the common people? Who do you think is better suited to lead this country out of its current troubles?
How did – several months on food stamps at the age of 2 or 3 years, after his parents divorced – become a lifetime of hardship as inferred by Mr. Begalus? Remember that same child never saw a public school, not in Malaysia, not in Hawaii, not in LA for his first 2 years of university, not completing his undergraduate degree at Columbia University and certainly not during his 3 years at Harvard Law School. When did he connect with the ‘common folk’? With all the claims to being so financial challenged, with all the claims to being in touch with the common folk, I just do not know how he and his family financed all that private school education. Even if they pulled a rabbit out of a hat, it is certainly not the common folk connection claimed by all in the Obama camp.
Do you know any common folk who attended Harvard Law School?
