Religion – In or Out?

We have “In God We Trust” on our money.  Most of the country follows Judeo/Christian traditions for our western legal codes and morality.

Most of us do not think that Islamic political figures and countries should be given preference over any other religious persuasions.  Perhaps Christian political figures and countries should be granted some preferential treatment as they are our roots.  More importantly, most of the President’s support comes from citizens who agree with the section of the constitution which makes a very definite separation between Church and State.

How does that work when their choice for President sends out a message to the Islamic nations of the world as almost his first act as President.  He ignores one of our prime allies – Israel.  He is disrespectful of British leaders and their Queen.  Then he apologizes for our behaviour as a nation – as being overly aggressive, imperalistic, and disrespectful – all this during two wars waged within Islamic nations – one of which he is winding down and one of which he is escalating.  Why was Bush’s war so vile?  Why is Obama’s war so righteous?

Politicians fighting wars?

When a soldier is under fire do you believe he should be worrying about ‘what is fair’?

When he captures an enemy soldier should he be concerned about political correct actions?  Should he be worried about how the next poll back home will interpret his actions?

Politicians should have very little to do with the details of battle.  Two reasons, one for plausible political deniability and second because 99% of politicians have no idea what they are talking about.

Currently, the enemy in Afghanistan is playing hide and seek with us.  He uses small villages as his base and hides among civilians.  Some civilians support them, some support us, some just are trying to survive.  Political pressure has been applied by world opinion and now the standing order for our soldiers is – do not pursue the enemy into civilian locations, do not fire at the enemy while he is in civilian locations.  I am not suggesting that we adopt a tactic or scorched earth but do not this kid glove approach seem a bit mild to anyone?

Here is the icing on the cake.  When we capture an enemy combatant we are not allowed to interrogate them.  We must turn them over to ‘civilian’ authorities so that they can be mirandized.  Then they are turned over to Afghan authorities who more often than not just release them … then they return to their military unit and shoot at our soldiers again.  War is not a police action.  This enemy is not robbing the local 7-11.

This all relates to the current administration pandering to the left and anti war sentiment.  I really do not have a big problem with leaving Afghanistan to the afghans.  Part of the Afghan population are a very brutal people.  There are ‘honour’ killing of daughters who disgrace the family in the eyes of the extreme Islamic laws.  There is acid washing of wives who disgrace a husband in the eyes of the extreme Islamic laws.  Political opposition includes the cutting off of a man’s eyes and nose because he carried a voter card and was going to vote in the recent election.  Political opposition includes the cutting off of the dyed fingers of Afghans who participated in the recent election.  Political opposition includes the threat that if anyone voted in the recent election, then they and their family would be punished severely with maiming or death likely.

What are we defending here?
